NORWALK YOUTH BASEBALL TO OVERSEE BABE RUTH CHARTER

Norwalk, CT – October 2, 2025

The Norwalk Youth Baseball (NYB) Board has officially voted to oversee the Norwalk Babe Ruth Charter, ensuring that players ages 13–16 will continue to have a home in Norwalk baseball.

In recent years, Babe Ruth teams have played under the Norwalk Tides name. By bringing Babe Ruth into the oversight of the NYB board, NYB aims to build on that foundation while also taking a comprehensive look at unifying baseball in Norwalk from age 5 through 16.

This continuity will allow players to grow together in their hometown, with a clear path to compete at the highest levels and prepare for Brien McMahon High School and Norwalk High School baseball programs.

“The best teams are the ones that can find a way to stay together,” said Vinny Mangiacopra, President of Norwalk Youth Baseball. “That’s our goal — to strengthen our community through the game of baseball.”

Steve Buckett, Head Baseball Coach at Brien McMahon High School and NYB Board Member, added:

“This gives us a stronger pipeline of athletes who have stayed together and developed through Norwalk baseball. It will only strengthen our high school program.”

Ryan Mitchell, Head Baseball Coach at Norwalk High School and NYB Board Member, said:

“It’s exciting to know that Norwalk kids have a real home for baseball beyond age 12. This will help us build continuity and competitive programs at the high school level.”

With Babe Ruth now guided by NYB’s expanded board, the mission is clear: keep Norwalk kids playing together, prepare them for the next level, and maintain baseball as an accessible, affordable option for every family in the community.

📅 2026 Spring and Summer 13–16U Evaluations will take place on Monday, October 20 at 5:00 PM at Nathan Hale Middle School. Players can register here.
